PoweReader takes your privacy very seriously. This policy outlines how PoweReader collects, uses, and protects your personal information.

Information PoweReader Collects

PoweReader collects analytical and crash data. This data includes information about how you use PoweReader's app, device information, and crash reports. PoweReader uses this data to improve the performance and stability of PoweReader's app.

Additionally, for Premium users, PoweReader collects usage information to determine the amount of resources consumed. This is necessary to ensure accurate tracking of your Premium usage.

PoweReader does not collect any personally identifiable information, including but not limited to IP addresses, email addresses, home addresses, or any other personal details.

How PoweReader Uses Your Information

PoweReader uses the data it collects to analyze user behavior and improve the performance of PoweReader's app. PoweReader may also use this data to troubleshoot technical issues and enhance user experience.

For Premium users, usage data is specifically used to track the consumption of services like translation, AI Summary, and AI Picks. When you use these Premium features, relevant data (excluding any user-identifiable information) is sent to third-party service providers (including, but not limited to, Google Cloud, OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.) to facilitate the requested functionality.

How PoweReader Protects Your Information

PoweReader takes appropriate security measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. PoweReader limits access to your information to those who need it to perform their job functions. PoweReader does not sell or share your personal information with third parties.

Using Your Own AI Service

With Premium, you can connect your own API key for summaries, translations and visual summaries. The key and connection settings are stored in Apple's Keychain and can sync between your devices through iCloud Keychain when enabled. PoweReader's servers do not receive your API key. The app sends it directly to the service you choose.

To prepare a request, the app sends the relevant article text, translation text or summary, together with your subscription transaction identifier, to PoweReader to check Premium access and prepare instructions. The app then sends the prepared request directly to your chosen AI service. That service processes the request under its own privacy policy and billing terms.

If you enable visual summaries, generated images are uploaded to PoweReader's image storage so they can load on your other devices. Image URLs are publicly accessible to anyone who has the URL. API keys are not included in image uploads.

The option to use Premium usage when your service is temporarily unavailable is on by default and can be turned off in Settings. When a request falls back, PoweReader's usual AI processing and usage rules apply. Disconnecting a service removes its saved connection and key from PoweReader's Keychain entries; it does not revoke the key with the provider or delete previously generated summaries and images.
